Why we built Spentt

Most personal finance apps have the same problem: they store your most sensitive financial data on their servers, require you to link your bank account, and monetise your spending patterns through advertising. When Mint — one of the most popular finance apps — shut down in early 2024, millions of users learned what this means in practice: years of financial history, gone, unless you exported in time.

Spentt was built to be the opposite of that. Your expense data is stored in a private file in your own Google Drive. We never see it, we can't access it, and if Spentt shuts down tomorrow, your data stays in your Drive — protected by Google's security, owned entirely by you.

The second problem we wanted to solve was friction. Most expense tracking apps are too complex to use every day — too many screens, too many required fields, too much setup. Spentt is designed around a single habit: log what you spend in 5 seconds, right after you pay, before you put your phone away.

How it works

Sign in with Google
One tap. Spentt requests access only to a private app folder in your Google Drive — nothing else. We never see your Gmail, your files, or your other Drive content.

Log expenses in 5 seconds
Tap +. Enter what you spent, the amount, and pick a category. Each expense is saved directly to your Google Drive — not our servers. Works on any phone, tablet, or desktop.

Get your weekly receipt every Sunday
Every Sunday, Spentt generates a receipt-style summary of your week — broken down by category, with a spending personality verdict based on your actual patterns. Honest, memorable, and shareable.

Review your Insights
The Insights tab shows your monthly category breakdown compared to last month — which categories went up, which went down, and how your overall spending is trending. No dashboard complexity, just the numbers that matter.

Your data, your storage
Every expense you log goes directly from your browser to your Google Drive. Spentt's servers are never involved in storing, reading, or processing your financial data. We structurally cannot see your expenses — and we've built it that way on purpose.

No bank linking — ever
Spentt will never ask for your bank account credentials, UPI PIN, or any financial login. You log expenses manually — which takes 5 seconds and creates the spending awareness that automatic imports bypass entirely.

Free — genuinely
No freemium limits. No features locked behind a paywall. No ads. All features — unlimited logging, weekly receipts, insights, history, CSV export, multi-currency — are free forever. We're building toward a Pro plan for power users, but the core product will always be free.

Spentt is designed around building one daily habit — logging what you spend. Every feature decision is evaluated against this: does it make the habit easier? Features that add complexity without improving the habit don't ship.
